Urbanization on the Rise!

Urbanization is becoming quite a popular trend nowadays. Everyone from the country is moving to the city because of all the job opportunities that are available. This population growth is leading to urbanization. According to studies, Europe’s population is growing rapidly, and in a few years, London will be the world’s largest city! What’s contributing to this growth, you ask? There’s a theory that shows the seed drill and sanitation advances are allowing people to live longer. Since there are more people, there’s a greater demand for products, which opens up job opportunities at factories and businesses, causing people to seek these jobs.
I spoke with Josue Santos, a new resident to the city of London about his move to the city. “I moved to London with my family of seven,” Santos says. “We moved because I got a job in the cotton business. I’m hoping to provide my family with money, food on their plate, and a roof over their heads.” Thanks to new residents like Santos, the economy is improving.
Another pro to urbanization is that there are new leisure activities. The arts, such as music and theatre, are becoming trendy among the people. In fact, there will be the grand opening of the new Sypert Theatre down on Main Street this December, featuring "Romeo and Juliet". Among the young people, new craze is the bicycle. Nowadays, you’ll be seeing children riding their bicycles to and from school, market, and park.
Although people are happy with urbanization, numerous people are starting to complain. Specifically, construction workers. Construction workers are struggling due to the demand for more houses to be built. “It’s kind of tiring,” Andre John Carbonell, a constructor worker, comments. “My coworkers and I are working longer hours. The more houses we’re assigned to build, the less time we have to work on a house that’s currently being built.”
Not only that, the poor are getting sick because of the poor sanitation conditions in parts of the city. There’s not enough clean water due to litter and sewage in the systems.
As the topic of urbanization sparks interest, we’ll be waiting for more houses to be built, a strive for cleaner cities, and "Romeo and Juliet" playing in December.
